Lokesh Wants Derogatory Dialogues Against Women In Films / Serials Banned

VIJAYAWADA: Education, IT and Electronics minister Nara Lokesh has requested Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan to ban derogatory dialogues in films and web series that are directed at women. He said in case such dialogues exist in a film or serial, their screening must be halted until suitable legislation is enacted. Lokesh’s request to the CM and his deputy came while they all had been participating in the free bus travel programme launched at the Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada. Addressing the gathering, Lokesh said at the launch of free bus travel that will empower women, he would like to bring forward the significant issue of dialogues being used to demean women on big and small screens, which cause harm. “My mother took three months to recover from an instance of public humiliation in the assembly. We must put an end to such language,” he underlined. The Education minister spoke of creating opportunities that have led to remarkable outcomes. “While in the opposition, I initiated a ‘Stree Shakti’ programme in Mangalagiri assembly constituency, which provided sewing machines and training to 3,623 women. We also ensured market linkage for their cloth and jute products, allowing the women to stand on their feet.” Lokesh said his father too had launched Heritage in 1992 for financial independence. “It has become a ₹5,000 crore company, thanks to my mother Bhuvaneswari, who initially hesitated to step into an office, but later took Heritage to new heights.” He pointed out that whereas previous policies forced a mother of two to sacrifice one child’s education for labour, today, under Chandrababu’s leadership, each mother can educate all her children under the Talliki Vandanam. The minister said the free bus travel initiative will ease the financial burden on female students and working women, saving them ₹1,500 monthly. “I observed your problems and difficulties during the Yuvagalam Padayatra. This drove me to propose free bus travel in the Super Six scheme,” he underlined. Those present at the meeting included BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav, APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, corporation managing director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, MP Kesineni Sivanath alias Chinni, and MLAs Gadde Rammohan and Bonda Uma Maheshwara Rao.
