New Delhi: Amid nuclear rhetoric by the United States of America, and Pakistan, the Lok Sabha on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasakion the 80th anniversary of the catastrophic incident. On behalf of the House Speaker Mr Om Birla reiterated commitment to a world free of mass destruction and work collectively to eliminate nuke weapons for global peace and harmony.The statement comes at a time when the US has “re-positioned” its two nuke submarines to threaten Russia. “Today completes the 80 years of the tragic atomic bombing on Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs were dropped on these two cities on August 6 and 9 due to which several people died, many got injured and became handicap for life. The world for the first time came to know about the destructive ill effects of nuclear weapons after this incident. This House reiterates its commitment to a world free of weapons of mass destruction and resolves to work collectively to eliminate nuclear weapons and ensure peace and harmony,” Speaker Mr Birla said. The lower house also held a two minute silence honouring the memory of victims of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on its 80th anniversary.
