Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) has announced the death of a female lion cub, aged approximately 83 days, early morning on Monday. The cub, which was under maternal care, had been showing signs of declining health over the past five days.According to G. Mangamma, curator of IGZP, the cub had gradually stopped feeding and was placed under close veterinary observation. Despite timely medical intervention and continuous monitoring, the cub could not be revived. Veterinary examinations revealed that the cause of death was intussusception, a serious medical condition in which a portion of the intestine slides into an adjacent section, obstructing the blood supply and leading to severe complications. A post-mortem conducted by the zoo’s veterinarian confirmed the diagnosis. “The cub was under constant care and medical supervision. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the condition proved fatal,” Mangamma said.
