Bengaluru:The Karnataka government on Monday revoked the suspension of four police officials — former Bengaluru police commissioner B. Dayananda; Shekar H. Tekkannavar, superintendent of police; C. Balakrishna, deputy superintendent of police; and inspector A.K. Girish and ordered their immediate reinstatement. However, Vikash Kumar Vikash, an officer of the rank of inspector general of police, continues to remain under suspension as he has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and the matter is now pending before the High Court of Karnataka. The officers were suspended by the government on June 5, a day after a stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed 11 lives and left about 70 injured. The state government revoked the suspension of the four officers, citing that they had submitted representations requesting the revocation of their suspension, which the government subsequently considered and accepted.Additionally, a magisterial enquiry conducted by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadish, as well as a one-man judicial commission headed by retired Karnataka High Court judge John Michael Cunha to probe the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, have submitted their reports. The stampede occurred when a huge crowd made a desperate attempt to enter the stadium to witness the felicitation ceremony of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise cricket team that won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 trophy. The IPL final was held on June 3, and the felicitation event for the RCB players was organised on June 4, which led to the stampede.
