Karimnagar: District Collector Pamela Satpathy issued orders surrendering the District Education Officer (DEO) Ch. V.S. Janardhan Rao to the education department for making controversial remarks during a Capacity Building Programme recently for teachers.During the concluding session of the five-day programme for government teachers held on May 24th, the DEO commented, “There is no female or male, everyone should know how to cook, tell all the students, especially boys, that if they don’t know how to cook, then their wives won’t stay with them will elope with somebody.”“Even if you know how to cook, but do it without any interest, the food will get spoiled. In the same manner, if teachers who have knowledge but do not impart it to the students it is meaningless and useless,” he added.The video of the DEO’s remarks posted on social media went viral and was criticised by parents and other sections of people.Female headmasters also complained about his inappropriate behaviour in Karimnagar that he made insulting remarks and comments against them.Acting on the complaints after initiating an enquiry, the Collector issued orders on Tuesday night surrendering DEO Janardhan Rao to the education department.Meanwhile, it is learnt that realising that his controversial remarks had reached higher authorities and anticipating disciplinary action against him, the DEO went on a long leave on Tuesday morning.
