Kurnool: Internal rivalries within the ruling Telugu Desam (TD) in Kurnool and Nandyal districts have triggered serious concern for the party’s leadership. The ruling party’s disciplinary committee has issued notices summoning several key leaders, asking them to explain their role in recent incidents that have exposed deepening fissures among local leaders and cadres.Recently, tension heightened during party MP Shabari’s tour of the Srisailam assembly segment. According to party insiders, her visit allegedly skirted the norm of coordination with local MLA Budda Rajasekhar Reddy. This irritated some TDP workers. They intercepted her convoy in protest. The situation escalated when irate cadres reportedly pelted stones at senior leader and former minister Erasu Prathap Reddy. He was jostled during the confrontation and later his house was targeted.Shabari denied any intent on her part to undermine local leadership. She clarified that she went to the former minister’s residence for breakfast, which was misunderstood by other leaders. The episode underscores the growing groupism in Nandyal, where rival camps of MPs, MLAs and senior leaders are clashing over prominence and protocol. All seven assembly segments have been affected. In Nandikotkur, MLA Gitta Jayasurya has openly criticised MP Shabari’s supporters over municipal leadership disputes. Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy has distanced herself from the MP’s camp, preferring to organise programmes independently.Notably, senior leader KE Prabhakar publicly criticised minister TG Bharath during the recent district-level Mahanadu, a move that drew the attention of the party high command.Similarly, Dhone MLA Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and senior leader Dharmavaram Subbareddy, who supported Kotla’s election, have since maintained a frosty distance, confusing the cadres. In Nandyal, Minister NMD Farooq and former MLA Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy’s supporters continue a simmering feud. In Allagadda, MLA Bhuma Akhila Priya and senior leader AV Subbareddy have even lodged police complaints against each other after repeated clashes. In response, the disciplinary committee has summoned the errant leaders and warned that a failure to appear and explain their actions could lead to strong disciplinary action.Internal feuds are threatening to erode party discipline and public trust. Restoring unity has become an urgent challenge for the TDP leadership.
