INDIA bloc picks former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy as Vice‑Presidential candidate



The INDIA bloc on Tuesday named former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, scheduled for September 9.The decision followed a meeting at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence, where opposition leaders discussed fielding a joint nominee.The BJP-led NDA has nominated Maharashtra Governor and RSS veteran C.P. Radhakrishnan for the post. A former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, Radhakrishnan’s name was announced on Sunday.The election was triggered by the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar last month due to health reasons. The deadline for filing nominations is August 21.While announcing the candidature of B. Sudershan Reddy, Kharge said, “B. Sudershan Reddy is one of India’s most distinguished and progressive jurists.He has had a long and eminent legal career, having served as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, and as a judge of the Supreme Court. He has been a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic, and political justice.
