ANANTAPUR: Heavy rains lashed the Rayalaseema region, in particular the Anantapur district, since Tuesday night. In Anantapur traffic was disrupted, and the commuters had problems reaching their residences due to whirlwinds and thundershowers. All main roads were waterlogged, in particular under bridges of Frist Road, Ramnagar, along with Sapthagiri Circle, Ashok Nagar and AP Housing Board Colony roads. Heavy rain hit many parts of the Rayadurg area, and 40 mm of rainfall was reported in Gummagatta mandal. Main roads were blocked following heavy rain in the area.However, the farmers are happy with heavy rain, as they will go for sowings in the final stage of the kharif season.
