GSI DG Underlines Need for Research, Innovation in Petrological Studies

Hyderabad: Geological Survey of India (GSI) Director-General, Asit Saha, on Friday stressed upon the need for research and innovation (R&I) in petrological studies to accelerate the pace of critical minerals to cater the growing demands of society. He was speaking at a workshop on ‘Recent advances in fundamental geosciences’ organised by GSI Southern Region at M. S. Krishnan Auditorium, GSI Training Institute in Hyderabad. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the immense significance of fundamental geosciences for promoting mineral exploration using modern insights of petrological studies, reducing carbon footprints through geological carbon storage and unravelling the paleo-environment through systematic paleontological studies. He stressed upon the need for research and innovation in petrological studies to accelerate the pace of critical minerals to cater the growing demands of society. The GSI Director-General emphasized on interdisciplinary research as the key for fostering advanced research in different facets of earth sciences. He trusted upon the need of strengthening research and development (R&D) activities in fundamental geosciences which have wide scale applications, even in the era of new age technology like AI & ML. The workshop also saw participation of eminent speakers and dignitaries from various government organisations, academic institutions and geoscientists of GSI.
