Government to Set Up 700 Women-run Thrupti Canteens in State

Nellore: As part of the state government’s Smart Street project aimed at promoting women’s self-reliance and livelihood, urban development minister Dr Ponguru Narayana, along with MEPMA MD Tej Bharat, launched first-of-its-kind ‘Thrupti Canteen’ in Nellore on Monday. The government is planning to set up 700 such facilities across the state.Theses canteens will be operated by women from the MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas) network, with the goal of empowering economically disadvantaged women into successful entrepreneurs.The pilot canteen, located near the Atmakur bus stand, is being run in collaboration with the Saara Project. Each canteen will directly employ four women and create indirect employment opportunities for others.Officials estimate that each woman entrepreneur could earn up to `30,000 per month through this startup model.As many as 3,000 MEPMA women will be engaged statewide under this programme, which is designed to boost family incomes and improve living standards among the urban poor.The initiative’s focuses not only on employment but also on building sustainable businesses led by women at the grassroots level.During the formal launch, the minister interacted with the women entrepreneurs and expressed confidence in their success.
