Ghatam Draws Huge Crowds For Bonalu

Hyderabad:On the second day of Old City Bonalu, devotees witnessed Palaram Bandi, Thotela, and Ghatam processions, led by Pothurajus as they toured the colonies. The day’s highlight was the Ghatam carried atop an elephant, parading through Bheeman Darwaza crossroads, Pathergatti, Charminar, and Nayapul before being immersed in the river.“The procession with the elephant carrying the Ghatam began at the Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali Temple after a special puja by police commissioner C.V. Anand,” said S.P. Kranthi Kumar, organising secretary of the temple committee. “Participants dressed as mythological characters joined in, and after worship at the Mata Temple in Nayapul, the Ghatam was ceremonially immersed.”At Sri Simhavahin Mahankali Devalayam in Lal Darwaza, oracle Anuradha, representing the third generation of oracular tradition, stood atop an earthen pot to prophesy. When asked why rains had been scant, she assured devotees of abundant monsoons for agriculture. Answering concerns about reckless youth, she warned against sinful behaviour and urged all to engage in good deeds.Temples across the Old City overflowed with worshippers, and several political leaders paid their respects during the festivities.
