Anantapur:The Union minister of state for information & broadcasting and parliamentary affairs, Dr L. Murugan, stated that with the construction of Sri Matanga Maha Peetham at Lakkireddypalle in Annamayya district would become a spiritual and cultural centre for the Madiga community in the southern states.On Thursday, the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Peetham was held on a grand note near Devara Cheruvu in Lakkireddypalle of Annamayya district with the initiative of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya Sri Sharada Lakshmi Narasimha Peethadhipathi Sri Swayamprakasha Sachidananda Saraswati. The event was also attended by Telangana minister for medical health and family welfare Damodara Rajanarasimha, Bhuvaneshwara Peetham’s head from Gannavaram, Sri Kamalananda Bharati Mahaswami, Sri Virajananda Swami of Achalananda Ashram at Brahmangari Matham and the head of Sri Matanga Maha Peetham, Sri Matanganandagiri.Expressing happiness over the commencement of construction of the Peetham for the first time in south India, minister Murugan emphasized that historical scriptures have always treated all castes equally. He thanked Sri Swayamprakasha Sachidananda Saraswati for initiating the establishment of the Peetham at Lakkireddypalle.Another guest, Karnataka’s minister for food and civil supplies K.H. Muniyappa said Mathas (monastic institutions) play a key role in imparting cultural values to the people. He noted that proper education is the foundation for righteousness. The construction would be completed within a year, he said, extending invitations to both students and scholars of Vedas and Upanishads to be part of the project.Sri Sri Sri Swayamprakasha Sachidananda Saraswati Mahaswami of the Divine Kshetra Peetham in Hariharapura, Karnataka, said that Indian culture is the foundation of global peace and harmony. Unlike other cultures, he said, India’s various spiritual paths ultimately lead to the experience of truth. He urged that growing trends of economic inequality, disbelief, and exploitation must be overcome through Indian cultural values. He emphasized that Sri Matanga Matha should be made inclusive for all people. It is believed by the local populace that Sage Agastya once walked through the Matanga mountain ranges near Devara Cheruvu in Lakkireddypalle of Annamayya district, and that Sita, Rama, and Lakshmana also traveled through these areas.For the event, a grand Sri Rajamatanga Devi Homa Mahotsavam with 108 sacrificial fire pits was conducted, highlighting that Sanatana Dharma grants equal representation to all castes as people from all communities participated in the celebrations.
