Even After Paying the DD, No Seva for Lord Venkateswara!

Nellore: A couple from Mahabubnagar, wishing to perform seva for Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala, faced unexpected disappointment despite completing all formalities. Setty Chandrasekhar paid a DD (Demand Draft) for the Seva in 2008 for an amount of Rs.21,250 in favour of TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) for participation in the Thiruppavada Seva and Melchat Vastram seva along with his wife, son and daughter-in-law on November 26.However, due to a lack of response from the TTD, they did not get to perform the Seva. Again in 2021, they registered for the Seva scheduled on September 10, but it was cancelled due to Covid-19. The TTD informed that the cancellation was due to the pandemic and assured to provide break-darshan instead of Sevas.Frustrated, the couple approached the Mahbubnagar District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. After hearing the plea, the forum questioned the TTD about the delay and non-issuance of tickets. The court ordered the TTD on May 8 to either reschedule the Seva or refund Rs.10 lakh to each couple as compensation for mental agony and spiritual disappointment. In this backdrop, the TTD approached the State Consumer Forum but the latter directed the TTD to resolve the issue in the District Consumer Court itself. The District Forum pulled up the TTD and asked them whether they will provide Seva tickets or deposit 50 per cent of the penalty of Rs.20 lakh in the court or go to jail. Left with no other alternative, the TTD agreed to arrange the Seva accordingly. The TTD officials stated that the Seva could now be performed on August 14 and 15 in the month of August this year and delivered the tickets through the Consumer Court.
