Don’t Shrink Your Territories: CM Stalin Tell Students

Chennai:Urging students to not shrink their territories to narrow outlooks like caste, religion, street and village, Chief Minister M K Stalin exhorted students to never give up on education but shun those who propagate ideas like studying was of no use because education formed the basis of everything, recalling an old proverb ‘study even if you had to beg for it.’Addressing a large number of students at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, where he was felicitated by the confederation of self-financing engineering colleges, private arts colleges federation and government and aided colleges for his efforts on achieving State Autonomy, Stalin promised to educate them come what may by securing their rights.Along with education, students should also learn about the history of social justice and reservation so that they would know about the growth that they had begotten and understand the need for further progress in life, he said.Cautioning students against social media, he asked them never to look for role models in social media, which was nothing but a place for entertainment and would in no way help in improving their skills.Students from the State had excelled in subjects like AI and Quantum Computing because of the State’s long term vision in education and hence educationalists should prepare the students for the needs of the next century, he said.Stating that there should be just two agendas for educational institutions, one the scientific approach and the other social justice, he said schools, colleges and other institutions should give no room for any events in the premises by inviting people who would speak against those two things that form the agenda. He himself had told a meeting of vice chancellors and other top honchos of educational institutions that only scientific things should be taught in classrooms and superstitions and ideas agitating against rationalism should never be propagated through educational institutions, he said. There would be no compromise of giving up the State’s rights and the committee headed by a retired High Court judge to study the needs for State Autonomy would be a historic one since it would help all the States to gain their autonomy. Similarly the court verdict that was given in favour of Tamil Nadu in the case against Governor R N Ravi was also a landmark judgment in securing the State’s rights, he said. The judgment proclaimed that the State Assemblies elected by the people had more powers than nominated Governors but in reality many States did not enjoy the freedom to do their own things in any departments, he said.
