Tirupati: A mentally unstable man caused chaos near the Kapilateertham intersection in Tirupati on Monday by attacking people on the footpath with stones. Three individuals sustained injuries, one of whom later died while undergoing treatment.The deceased has been identified as Shekhar, 55. The other two injured persons include Subrahmanyam, an employee at the Kapila Theertham parking lot, and Kalpana, a local resident. Both are receiving treatment at SVR Ruia Government General Hospital. The incident occurred in the Alipiri police station limits. Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker threw stones at random passersby and people sitting along the roadside, triggering panic in the area. It took nearly an hour for local residents, municipal workers, and police personnel to overpower and detain him. Police said the attacker appears to be mentally disturbed and is believed to be from Tamil Nadu. He has been sent for medical examination, and efforts are underway to ascertain his identity. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
