Deepika Padukone has opted out of starring in the Hindi remake of Anne Hathaway’s 2015 hit The Intern. The actress, who was to share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, has decided to step away from acting in the project, but will continue to produce it under her banner, Ka Productions. As per sources, Deepika , who acquired the remake rights in 2020, will now serve solely as a producer, overseeing the film’s creative and logistical reboot. “A new leading lady is being cast to play the part Deepika was once slated to perform,” the source revealed. The project has had a long and turbulent journey. Initially announced with Deepika and Rishi Kapoor, it was halted following Rishi Kapoor’s demise in April 2020. In 2021, Deepika roped in her Piku co-star Amitabh Bachchan for the role originally played by Robert De Niro. However, the film soon ran into delays, and with Deepika taking a maternity break, production was further postponed. Now, with the project back on track, the search is on for a fresh face to step into the lead role opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
