Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said the former Prime Minister India Gandhi displayed the might of women during India-China and India-Pakistan War in 1971. India’s victory in the wars was the result of invincible women’s competence, he said. “Congress never underestimated the power of the women community who was also considered as a role model for the country. Congress demonstrated women’s power which is a strong foundation for the country,” he said while participating in the “WE Hub – Women Acceleration” programme. The people’s government has been organising a slew of programs for women empowerment and also targeted to promote one crore women as millionaires, he said. The Congress leader Sonia Gandhi provided a free RTC bus travel facility for women. After the launch of the Mahalakshmi scheme, TGSRTC is earning profits, Revanth Reddy said and added that the management of government schools was handed over to women in the name of Amma Adarsh Schools. The works of stitching students’ uniforms were also awarded to women groups. Women have been encouraged to grow as entrepreneurs. The State government was promoting women’s groups as a strong business community by opening petrol Pumps and solar power generation on their own. The government has allocated stalls to the women groups in Shilparamam to display their products and provide marketing facilities. The government strongly believes that the State will prosper economically only when women are empowered and live with self-respect, he explained adding that efforts were on to increase the number of women self-help groups to one crore and ready to encourage them to grow. “Some corporate bigwigs evaded Rs.16 lakh crore bank loans and fled the country. However, women groups are paying loans with interest and outstanding amounts without any delay. Women are synonyms for financial discipline,” he said. The government has already handed over a 1000 MW solar power generation business to the women group and it is ready to award another 1000 MW solar power generation works to the women if they manage efficiently. The government is presenting gifts which are produced by the women groups to the foreign delegates and other guests during their visit to Telangana. “My government’s policy is to promote the women community and empower them,” he said, instructing authorities to organise a special drive to include women in urban areas in self-help groups. “Our government’s main goal is to develop one crore woman millionaires,” he added.
