HYDERABAD: BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government of pursuing policies that favour Andhra Pradesh over Telangana and urged his party cadre to launch an intense campaign demanding that the state government prioritise the welfare of Telangana farmers. At a meeting held at his farmhouse, attended by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, senior leader T. Harish Rao and former minister G. Jagadish Reddy, Chandrashekar Rao said the Congress government had failed to protect Telangana’s interests and was enabling the success of projects being proposed by Andhra Pradesh. He cited the proposed Godavari–Banakacharla link as an example of how the Congress was letting down Telangana. He alleged that the state government had deliberately left the Kaleshwaram project idle and instructed BRS leaders to highlight the neglect. “The government must activate the Kannepalli pumphouse to lift Godavari waters and resume filling tanks, lakes and reservoirs, as was done when BRS was in power,” he said. He also directed party leaders to focus on the severe shortage of urea fertiliser in the state and its impact on farmers. Instead of addressing the issue, he said the Congress and BJP were busy blaming each other, and it was the BRS’ duty to hold both accountable for failing to ensure adequate stocks and timely supply. Averring that only the BRS stood firmly with the people of Telangana, Chandrashekar Rao instructed his leaders to strengthen all associated party organisations and coordinate their activities.
