Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday vowed to transform the state into a “drugs-free Telangana,” and lauded city police commissioner C.V. Anand for earning global recognition for the police department’s fight against narcotics.Anand, who heads the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), received the ‘Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award’ at the World Police Summit-2025, hosted by Dubai Police from May 13 to May 16. The award recognises extraordinary achievements in combating the global drug menace. Following his return from Dubai, Anand met with Revanth Reddy here on Saturday. The Chief Minister, expressing his pride, took to X to commend the commissioner’s efforts and the broader work of Telangana Police. “Congratulated #Hyderabad police commissioner @CVAnandIPS garu for earning top global honour for the fight against drugs,” Revanth reddy wrote. “He received the first prize for ‘Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award’ at World Police Summit 2025, hosted by the Dubai Police.” Revanth Reddy highlighted the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics, calling it a “serious threat” to society and future generations. “Drugs cannot be tolerated in the name of lifestyle. I am happy @TelanganaCOPs is seriously working to destroy this menace. Let us all join together to end drugs and make #Telangana drugs-free,” he said in the post. The international recognition was awarded to Anand based on a range of decisive measures undertaken in Hyderabad to curb drug trafficking and consumption. These include large-scale crackdowns on drug networks, use of advanced surveillance and intelligence tools, and a series of awareness campaigns conducted in schools and colleges over the past three years. In a media statement, Anand expressed immense pride in the accolade. “I am proud to receive the honour of First Prize in the Excellence in Anti-Narcotics category at the World Police Summit in Dubai on behalf of all the people of Telangana,” he said. He attributed the success to three core pillars — political resolve, public support, and professional policing. “In the last 16 months, Telangana and Hyderabad police have been using the best of strategies, technology and intelligence to nip the narcotics threat in the bud.” Anand credited Revanth Reddy with spearheading the anti-drug initiative and transforming it into a statewide movement.
