HYDERABAD: Churches across Hyderabad and Secunderabad have launched their annual week-to-10-day Vacation Bible Schools, drawing hundreds of children — and, increasingly, entire families — to faith-based summer programmes packed with music, skits, quizzes and art. At the Methodist Chapel on Chapel Road, organisers introduced an Ancient Rome theme for 2025. Parents and children arrived in togas and tunics, portraying biblical-era characters and explaining each role’s historical context. “For once I get to be the student,” said city schoolteacher Deva Pramola, who attended in costume. Fellow participant Devdas Sagar added that his family relished “bringing history alive” through dress-up and storytelling. Inter-generational learning is a growing hallmark of the events, with elders joining classroom activities alongside youngsters. Organisers say the fresh thematic twist fuels greater enthusiasm for scripture lessons. Meanwhile, CSI Wesley Church wrapped up its VBS on Saturday after a 10‑day run that began April 24, registering more than 300 participants. Director M. Sheba Ratnaker credited the early-morning music sessions for sustaining high energy. “The moment schools closed, we opened our doors, and the response surpassed expectations,” she said. Most programmes will conclude before monsoon season, leaving children with what organisers call “a summer of song, stories and spiritual discovery.”
