Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday asked OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries in India to take down all content including web series, films and songs with Pakistani origin, with immediate effect. “In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect,” the ministry said in a statement. The advisory comes hours after the Defence Ministry informed that the Indian armed forces on Thursday thwarted Pakistan’s overnight attempt to strike multiple military targets in northern and western India with drones and missiles, and destroyed a key air defence system in Lahore.
