Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday afternoon detained Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) Chief General Manager Akhilesh Verma on graft charges. He was taken to the agency’s Bhubaneswar office for questioning, sources said. According to reports, Verma was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in exchange for awarding a work contract worth Rs 11 lakh to an individual. The complainant is said to have tipped off the CBI about the bribe demand, following which a trap was laid. Verma was apprehended by CBI officials while receiving the money on Thursday, sources added.
