Cabinet Likely to Take Key Decision on BC Quota

Hyderabad: Focusing on the 42 per cent of reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), the Cabinet meeting is likely to take a key decision on the local body elections during its meeting scheduled to be held on Monday at the Secretariat. The panchayat raj department has informed the State Election Commission (SEC) to take steps to conduct local body elections.The Telangana High Court had also, on June 25, mandated 30 days deadline to finalise reservations for local body elections. Following the Cabinet decision, the State Election Commission could go ahead with a full-pledged work schedule and the local polls are likely to be held in two phases. After Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a forceful speech at the Indira Bhavan in New Delhi in the presence of the AICC leaders including Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, sources said the Cabinet would take key decisions in 42 per cent reservation for BCs in the local body elections. “A comprehensive discussion will take place at the Cabinet meeting on the 42 per cent reservation for the backward class community in Telangana and its implementation in the local body elections. Given the court directions, the Cabinet will discuss the Governor’s approvals and other issues. The Cabinet meeting will also highlight the government’s welfare schemes and implementation,” the sources added. The Cabinet meeting would also discuss free bus service for women, fine rice distribution, Indiramma Housing scheme, selection of eligibility and distribution of certificates, and Rytu Bharosa. The Cabinet would also discuss Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) on the Metro Rail phase-II project and its expansion in Hyderabad. The sources said that the ministers have been asked to review the implementation of welfare schemes at the ground level.
