New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced bypolls to five assembly seats in four states to be held on June 19. Two assembly bypolls will be held in Gujarat, one each in Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab. The counting of votes will take place on June 23.“The provisions of Model Code of Conduct for thc guidance of the Political Parties and Candidates have come into force with immediate effect,” the ECI said adding no fresh release of funds under the MP (including Rajya Sabha members) Local Area Development Fund shall be made in any part of the districts in which the Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency is situated where election is in progress, till the completion of election process.In Gujarat, the bypoll to the Kadi seat was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Karsanbhai Punjabhai Solanki while bypoll to the Visavadar seat is taking place due to the resignation of sitting member Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai.In Kerala, the Nilambur seat goes to the bypoll after P. V. Anvar resigned, while in Punjab its Ludhiana seat fell vacant due to the death of sitting member Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. Byelection to the Kaliganj Assembly seat in West Bengal has been necessitated due to the death of sitting assembly member Nasiruddin Ahamed.
