GUWAHATI: Fresh violence broke out in Manipur on Thursday, leaving a Meitei farmer injured after he was hit by a bullet while working in his field.Ningthoujam Biren sustained an injury to his left forearm after a bullet fired by suspected Kuki militants struck him at Phubala in Bishnupur district of the Imphal Valley around 3:15 p.m.The incident occurred when Biren was working in his field along with two other farmers. The Meitei-majority Bishnupur district shares a border with the Kuki-majority Churachandpur district.Biren, who was rushed to a hospital, said he had heard the sound of five gunshots. “I heard five gunshots. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain and saw that I was bleeding from my arm,” he said.The two others with him escaped unhurt. Following the incident, angry locals blocked the highway leading to Churachandpur district. They suspected the involvement of Kuki militants and demanded action against them.Senior police officials visited the site, and the situation was said to be tense.
