Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed deep concern over the special intensive revision (SIR) being conducted by the Election Commission of India in Bihar ahead of the Assembly polls. He warned that under the pretext of an “intensive revision,” people could be unjustly targeted, with their fundamental right to vote at risk of being taken away.In a post on social media platform X, Owaisi highlighted reports citing unnamed Election Commission sources claiming that booth level officers (BLOs) encountered residents from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar during house-to-house surveys. He questioned the credibility of these claims, asking, “Which BLOs? How did they determine these individuals’ countries of origin?” Owaisi also pointed to alarming data showing a sharp rise in the number of untraceable electors — from 11,484 on July 22 to 100,000 by July 23 — calling it an “obvious sign of administrative callousness.” He warned that the adverse consequences of these actions will be borne primarily by India’s poorest and most vulnerable populations.
