Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials to ensure that all the villages in the state have efficient waste management systems, as part of the Swachhandra (Clean AP) programme. The CM conducted a review meeting on Swachhandra at the Secretariat on Thursday and recommended formulation of a circular economy policy. “The Rajasthan model in circular economy should be examined and the good sides emulated,” he said.Garbage should be collected from houses every day. Wet waste should be converted into compost and dry waste must be handed over to collection agencies. Officials must call tenders next month to select such agencies, he said. The CM said Dwacra women should be given the responsibility of converting wet waste into fertilizer. Some 52 clusters should be set up in the state — two per mandal headquarters and two per district — to grade the waste and sell it to the required agencies or to transport the waste from there. Garbage, he said, should not be thrown on the road in any village panchayat. The CM suggested that awards be given to panchayats and individuals who have managed waste effectively, on every October 2. The entire system should be in place by October 2, 2026. Regarding the Zero Waste government policy, Naidu stated, “Zero waste should be our goal. Let us prepare an action plan for every panchayat. The Panchayat Raj department should coordinate with Swachh Andhra Pradesh and the Pollution Control Board. The issue of collecting garbage by setting up electric vehicles should be examined. A study should be conducted to ensure that waste generated in the agricultural fields and allied sectors are turned into strengths for the circular economy.”The CM reviewed the progress of waste-to-energy plants being set up in Nellore, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Kurnool.
