Andhra Pradesh Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh announced on Sunday that the State government is actively planning initiatives to bolster the Telugu film industry. “We are fully aware of the unique geographical and cultural diversity of post-bifurcation Andhra Pradesh,” he stated.Highlighting AP’s scenic advantages over Telangana, the Minister noted the State’s abundance of natural beauty and biodiversity, which make it an ideal location for film shoots. However, he acknowledged the lack of adequate film infrastructure. To address this gap, the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, is preparing a comprehensive film policy. This policy will focus on developing key infrastructure, including film studios, dubbing and re-recording theatres, and other essential facilities.Minister Durgesh emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of the Telugu film industry. “Visakhapatnam will soon emerge as a cinematic hub, equipped with modern infrastructure comparable to that of Hyderabad,” he assured.A central aspect of this vision includes reviving the prestigious Nandi Awards, which have long stood as the pinnacle of recognition in Telugu cinema. Due to political hurdles and delays, especially following the 2014 bifurcation, the awards had been sidelined. Now, Andhra Pradesh is determined to restore its legacy. As part of this revival, the State government will soon host a consultation with key stakeholders from the film industry, including actors, directors, and producers, to shape a roadmap for progress.Meanwhile, in Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced in 2024 the creation of the ‘Gaddar Awards’ to honour excellence in Telugu cinema, theatre, and television, marking a new chapter in the cultural landscape of both states.
