Visakhapatnam:Andhra University has announced a temporary closure of all student hostels on campus beginning Saturday evening after examinations conclude.According to AU registrar Acharya E.N. Dhananjaya Rao, the closure will allow for necessary annual repairs to be completed while also addressing water shortage issues, typical during the summer months. Security considerations were also cited as a factor in the decision.“The management has carefully considered this situation and determined that the summer break provides the optimal window for comprehensive maintenance work,” he said. The decision follows discussions between university officials, the principal, chief warden and engineering officers, who collectively assessed the hostel facilities and current water supply constraints. After reviewing their recommendations, administration officials confirmed the temporary closure.Students have been instructed to vacate their accommodations immediately following the completion of their examinations. University officials emphasised the importance of prompt departure to facilitate the commencement of repair works in both the residential buildings and dining facilities. The administration has not yet announced a reopening date, though it is expected the hostels will resume normal operations before the start of the next academic term.
