Jeff Bezos is one of the richest people in the world and a pioneer of e-commerce as the founder of Amazon, which has transformed how people shop and consume content. According to Forbes, he’s worth an estimated $230 billion as of June 2025, ranking him fourth globally behind Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, and Elon Musk. Beyond Amazon’s massive ventures, Bezos has set his sights on space exploration through his company Blue Origin.
Now, Bezos is preparing to marry for the second time. The Amazon founder, 61, and Lauren Sánchez, 55, officially confirmed their engagement in May 2023, following nearly five years of dating. In June 2025, they’re set to wed during a lavish, three-day celebration in Venice, complete with celebrity guests, luxury yachts, and high security. But Sanchez won’t be his first wife—Bezos was married for 25 years to MacKenzie Scott, whose support helped shape Amazon’s early success.

How Did Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Scott Meet?
Long before Bezos became a household name as the founder of Amazon, he met Scott while they were both working at the hedge fund D.E. Shaw in New York City in 1992. Scott, who interviewed for a research associate role, later recalled it was “love at first listen” when she heard Bezos’s laugh coming from his office, as she told Charlie Rose in a 2013 interview.
The two quickly began dating, got engaged just three months later, and married in 1993. A year after tying the knot, they moved to Seattle so Bezos could launch what would become Amazon.
Scott said she supported his dream from the very start, telling Rose, “What I’m hearing when he tells me that idea is the passion and the excitement, and to me, watching your spouse, somebody that you love, have an adventure—what is better than that? And being part of that, I couldn’t wait to hop in the car!”

After getting married in 1993, Bezos and Scott went on to have four children together: three sons, including their eldest, Preston, born in 2000, and a daughter adopted from China. The couple kept their family life largely private, but in 2021, two of their sons were seen embracing Bezos after his Blue Origin spaceflight.

Bezos and Scott were married for 25 years before finalizing their divorce. The former couple announced that they planned to divorce in a joint statement in January 2019. “After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce,” they said at the time. “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”
Soon after their split was announced, Bezos’ relationship with Sanchez became public when the National Enquirer published texts and photos revealing their affair.
Following the divorce, Scott became one of the richest women in the world, instantly joining the ranks of global billionaires. She later remarried Seattle science teacher Dan Jewett in 2021, but filed for divorce the following year, finalizing their split in January 2023.

While Bezos and Sánchez’s relationship wasn’t officially public when their romance was first revealed following his split from Scott, the pair stepped out for their first public date night in May 2019. Since then, they’ve been frequently seen together, from romantic getaways on luxury yachts to appearances at high-profile events like Cannes and Wimbledon.
The couple gave their first joint interview to CNN in November 2022, where Sánchez shared, “We’re really great teammates, and we also have a lot of fun together and we love each other. We always look at each other and we’re the team.”
Sánchez was also on hand to greet Bezos after his historic return to Earth following Blue Origin’s first crewed spaceflight in July 2021. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in January 2023, Sánchez revealed she was immediately charmed by Bezos’ distinctive laugh. “He makes me laugh all the time. He can be goofy,” she said. “That laugh makes me smile. When I first heard his laugh, I was like, ‘Whoa! What is that?’ Now I love it.”

After nearly five years of dating, Bezos and Sánchez got engaged in May 2023 when Bezos proposed aboard his yacht while they were vacationing in the South of France during the Cannes Film Festival. Per People, Sánchez was soon spotted wearing a large diamond ring, confirming the news.
Since then, the couple moved forward with wedding plans and, in June 2025, tied the knot in an extravagant, star-studded ceremony in Venice, Italy.
