New Delhi: The government on Monday reopened the 32 airports that were temporarily shut for civil use in the wake of the India, Pakistan conflict and Operation Sindoor. Following the ceasefire announcement between the two nations, the government opened these dual use airports after getting a clearance from the Indian Air Force which had taken control of these airports for military use. However, the airlines said they will take some time to restart operations in some places. Security measures that were enhanced in all airports across the country will remain.The airports shut during India’s Operation Sindoor were Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise and Uttarlai.In a statement on Monday, AAI said the 32 airports that were closed for civilian aircraft operations till 0529 hours of May 15 are now available for aircraft operations with immediate effect. “It is recommended for travellers to check flight status directly with airlines and monitor airlines’ websites for regular updates,” the statement said.Shortly, the Chandigarh International Airport announced that flight operations have been resumed from 10.30 am on Monday. Amritsar Airport announced, “IndiGo Airlines will resume its operation from Amritsar Airport as per following details Flight 6E2045 will operate from Delhi to Amritsar today (Dep: 2000 hrs, Arr: 2110 hrs). Return flight 6E5215 will depart Amritsar at 2140 and arrive at T3 of IGIA by 2255.” Jammua airport also announced resumption of flight operations.IndiGo airlines said that it will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes. “As services gradually return to normal, there may still be few delays and last minute adjustments. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams work diligently to restore seamless operations,” said IndiGo adding the waiver on cancellation and rescheduling will continue till May 22.“Following a notification from aviation authorities on the reopening of airports, Air India is working towards progressively commencing flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot. We appreciate your understanding at this time as our teams work on bringing operations at these airports back to normal,” said Air India.
