HYDERABAD: Fulfilling his ultimate wish, a cancer‑warrior doctor personally met his childhood sports hero, former Indian skipper and minorities welfare minister Mohammed Azharuddin, in Hyderabad on Wednesday. In a deeply moving moment, Dr Mishil Parikh, consultant orthopaedic oncologist at Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, realised his lifelong dream of meeting Azharuddin. The meeting was facilitated by Balaji Manohar, president of Telangana Entrepreneurs Association, through a heartfelt appeal titled ‘Seeking Your Support for a Special Meeting – My Last Wish.’ According to an official release, Dr Parikh has dedicated his career to treating bone and musculoskeletal tumours, performing over 1,800 surgeries and bringing hope to countless families. After post‑graduation, he trained at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, completed a fellowship at the University of Florida, USA, and became one of India’s youngest musculoskeletal oncologists. He has contributed to medical journals, served in academics, and founded the Sarcoma Education Foundation. Balaji Manohar contacted Mohammed Mujeeb Khan, private secretary to Azharuddin, to arrange the meeting. The minister responded with compassion and promptly agreed. As Dr Parikh stood before his childhood idol, the room was filled with emotion. A doctor who had spent years giving courage to cancer patients now stood with tears of joy—not from pain, but from fulfilment. For those present, the moment was a reminder that humanity outweighs power, kindness surpasses status, and fulfilling one person’s final wish can be the greatest achievement of all.
