Hyderabad: Economist and public policy analyst Mohan Guruswamy opined that, as people were concerned that artificial intelligence (AI) would replace humans but it would not remain for long and wold pass on. Guruswamy, who participated in the Osmania University’s Foundation Day celebrations here on Sunday, said AI did not replace people, but would only be a supplement. He explained about the times since the real progress of technology has taken place, starting from the advent of World War II and the technology needed for army artillery.Guruswamy said people feared that machines like CNC and 3D technology would change everything, but those fears did not come true, and they had passed on. “Similarly, the AI will also pass on, and the investors will move on to something else after a few years,” he said. Telangana has 30 per cent enrolment in government schools, and most of the government hospitals shut down due to poor quality, he said.India has the largest higher education population with 155 million young adults of 18-23 years entering universities, which will rise to 165 million by 2030, he said, adding that the challenge now is how quality education will be provided to them.He raised concerns about the PhD holders, as many colleges are hiring MTech graduates for teaching BTech students and MA graduates for teaching BA students.Governments have to set up the standards to compete with the world, he said, suggesting each state must have its own regulatory bodies like UGC, NCERT.Telangana High Court Judge Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka noted that higher education is the only potent weapon to eradicate social evils and systemic challenges. Addressing the evolving job market, he said that while governments cannot provide jobs to millions, students and researchers must innovate to become job creators rather than seekers.Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narendar Reddy said that Chief Minister A.
