BENGALURU: The High Court of Karnataka on Saturday accepted Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s undertaking to visit Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill in Mysuru to apologies to the deity over his comments and mimicry on the depiction of the deity Chamundi in the Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1. The High Court said it will pass appropriate orders to close Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s mimicry of a deity’s depiction case after recording Singh’s apology and the Court said it will direct Ranveer Singh to visit the Chamundi Hill in four weeks. The High Court heard a plea from Ranveer Singh to quash a criminal case registered against him over his reported controversial mimicry and comments on a deity’s depiction in Kannada film Kantara. Singh reportedly mimicked and commented on the depiction of Chamundi deity in the Kantara movie during the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Over his mimicry of the deity, a criminal case was registered against Ranveer Singh under section 196 (religious enmity), 299 (religious insult) and 302 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Bollywood actor moved the High Court contending that he did not mean to hurt the religious sentiments and was ready to tender an unconditional apology. Ranveer Singh filed an apology affidavit before the High Court of Karnataka and made it clear to the High Court to offer prayers at Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill in Mysuru. The complainant, advocate Prashanth Methal, wanted the Court to issue a word of caution in its order to refrain celebrities from commenting that could hurt the religious sentiments of the people. “It will be done,” the High Court said.
