Excise Head Constable Killed in Vizag Road Accident



Visakhapatnam:A head constable of the Prohibition and Excise Department was killed and two others were seriously injured in a road accident near Kancharapalem in Visakhapatnam city on Friday.The deceased was identified as Lagudu Simhachalam Naidu, 44, a resident of Susarla Colony in NAD and posted at Seethammadhara Excise Station.Police said Naidu was travelling from Thatichetlapalem towards Kancharapalem when another speeding motorcycle reportedly rammed his bike from behind. He died in the accident.The two youths involved in the collision, Devupali Karthik, 18, and Botta Ekanth, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital. Their condition was stated to be critical.Police registered a case and took up investigation.Excise minister Kollu Ravindra expressed grief over Naidu’s death and said the government would extend support to the family, including a job and ₹1.1 crore under SBI insurance.Acting on information, Additional Superintendent of Police Vibhu Krishna alerted police teams. A team led by I Town Circle Inspector Kondareddy apprehended 11 accused near Ayyappa Swamy temple on Yerraguntla Road in Proddatur on Friday.Police said those arrested included Shilpa, Sudheer and members of the hired gang. They seized knives, daggers, iron rods, ₹5 lakh in cash, two cars and 10 mobile phones from the accused.Kadapa district Superintendent of Police Shelkhe Nachiket Vishwanath appreciated the police team for cracking the case and preventing the planned murder.
