KARIMNAGAR: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday said Karimnagar would be developed into a tourist hub with the rejuvenation of major lakes under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony in Karimnagar, the minister called for cooperation across political affiliations to accelerate the city’s development. City Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Sunil Rao and officials participated in the inspection of development sites. The ₹5.82 crore project aims to rejuvenate Kothapalli, Theegalaguttapalli and Rekurthi lakes with the construction of bunds, landscaping and a drainage system to prevent sewage inflow. The minister performed the groundbreaking ceremony at Theegalaguttapalli and Kothapalli and inspected the works with municipal commissioner Praful Desai. He said the modernisation of the lakes would address difficulties faced during religious festivities and create recreational spaces for residents while improving environmental conditions. Bandi Sanjay Kumar also said that while main roads in the municipal corporation were largely completed, interior colony roads remained in poor condition. He assured that road works would begin soon in affected lanes. He praised the corporation’s governing body for working collectively despite political differences and said efforts would continue to secure additional funds for the city’s development.
