Dharwad: Mallamma, wife of former Zilla Panchayat president Yogesh Goudar, has said she would “bow head” to the court verdict. The Special Court for Cases Involving Elected Representatives in Bengaluru had on Wednesday convicted Kulkarni and 16 others in connection with the Yogesh Goudar murder. The court on Friday pronounced the quantum of punishment, sentencing all the convicts to life imprisonment. “We bow our heads to the court order,” Mallamma said. “I always remember my husband, he is always with me. The people of our constituency stood by us during our difficult times,” she added. Meanwhile, social activist Basavaraj Koravar, who had strongly fought for a CBI probe into the case, has been provided police security following the conviction of the accused. “Threats—direct or indirect—have always been there since the time I held a press conference seeking a CBI probe. When one fights such high-profile cases, these things are expected. I have not asked for security,” Koravar said. Sources said that if Kulkarni fails to secure a stay from a higher court, he is likely to lose his MLA post. Yogesh Goudar , a BJP leader and then Zilla Panchayat president, was murdered during a gym workout at Sapthapura on June 15, 2016. The local police filed a chargesheet in September 2016, but the family alleged lapses in the investigation and sought a CBI inquiry, alleging Kulkarni’s involvement. Following repeated demands, the state government led by BS Yediyurappa handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation in 2019. The CBI registered a case on September 24, 2019. After a detailed probe, the CBI filed a chargesheet, and the trial was held in the special court, which convicted Kulkarni and others earlier this week.
