VIJAYAWADA: AP BJP president P.V.N. Madhav on Sunday described the passage of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation) Bill as a historic milestone in India’s parliamentary democracy. He went on to strongly condemn remarks made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in this regard.Addressing a press conference, Madhav maintained that the legislation has received an unprecedented 99.99 per cent support in both the houses of Parliament under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with only two members opposing it. To popularise the legislation, the BJP plans to hold large public meetings, women’s rallies and scooty processions in cities including Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Tirupati. The AP BJP president said signature campaigns and missed-call initiatives have also been launched to mobilise public support, including from men, for the bill. Madhav said they will carry out programmes across party lines with allies like the Telugu Desam Party. Madhav declared that the centre aims to implement the reservation for women fully by the 2029 elections after completing the census and the delimitation processes. He maintained that necessary amendments will be taken up during the special Parliament sessions scheduled from April 16 to April 18. The AP BJP president launched a sharp attack against Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging that his comments are dangerous and could incite violence and communal tensions. He said the Congress leader likening BJP and RSS members to snakes and calling for their elimination is a threat to democracy. Demanding an unconditional public apology from Kharge, Madhav also sought the responses from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in this regard. Those present at the press conference included BJP leaders Saligrama Lakshmi Prasanna, Nishida Raju, and Boddu Nagalakshmi.
