Statewide BRS Protests Against SIT Questioning of KCR

Hyderabad: BRS workers staged protests across Telangana on Sunday against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioning party supremo and former chief minister and K. Chandrashekar Rao in connection with the phone-tapping case.Senior officials have reportedly decided to register cases against them for violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) that is in place for the civic elections.In Hyderabad, police detained more than 10 BRS workers who tried to march towards Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s residence and staged a protest at the Jubilee Hills checkpost and released them later. Party workers also gathered at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, in Banjara Hills and staged a protest at the main gate.Police barricaded the premises, restricting workers from exiting the office. Forces were also deployed on the road leading to Rao’s residence at Nandinagar, where the SIT questioning was taking place, as well as on the road leading to the BRS office and at the Police Command Centre junction.BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who visited Nandinagar during the questioning, alleged that the Congress government was staging “dramas” under the guise of the SIT investigation out of fear of losing municipal elections. He accused the government of engaging in vindictive politics against the BRS and vowed that the party would continue to fight on behalf of the people.At the Secretariat, BRS activists burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in protest against the questioning. Police intervened and detained several workers.Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Quthbullahpur MLA K.P. Vivek alleged that since the Congress came to power, governance had been neglected and cases filed against BRS leaders to harass them mentally and physically. He claimed the SIT notices and questioning of the former chief minister were politically motivated.In Nagarkurnool, party cadres attempted to burn an effigy of the Chief Minister at Kolhapur, prompting police to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the mob. In Siddipet, BRS workers staged a protest at the Erravalli farmhouse before Rao left for Hyderabad. In Suryapet, leaders and workers performed Pinda Pradanam rituals to a portrait of Revanth Reddy. Similar protests were reported in Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Asifabad and other districts.BRSV state president Gellu Srinivas Yadav, who led a protest at the Ministers’ Quarters and alleged that the Congress government was harassing Rao, was briefly detained.
