KADAPA: The district administration has cancelled 227 gun licences in Kadapa following a detailed review, according to sources in the collector’s office.The action was initiated after reports surfaced that several licence holders were allegedly involved in acts of intimidation, issuing threats, and other unlawful activities after acquiring firearms. Based on a comprehensive scrutiny carried out by the police, the office of the Superintendent of Police submitted a report to the district collector recommending the cancellation of licences. The district has a total of 854 licensed firearms, of which licences held by 227 individuals have now been revoked. Police officials said that some of the licence holders whose permits were cancelled were found to have criminal backgrounds. Following the issuance of cancellation orders, the firearms concerned were seized by the police. Authorities stated that the move forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and ensure that licensed firearms are not misused in the district.
