HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad‑based NGO, Urban Development Forum, has urged IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu to act against the private firm contracted to manage Telangana’s online Right to Information (RTI) portal, alleging irregularities and lack of transparency. In a letter to the minister, forum convenor M. Srinivas said the firm had failed to register hundreds of applications, creating confusion instead of ensuring accountability. Since the portal’s launch three years ago, only 377 applications, barely 2 per cent of 17,805 received, have been addressed. Despite hundreds of government agencies falling under RTI, the portal currently covers just 17 departments. The firm signed a ₹2.07‑crore, three‑year contract and has already claimed ₹1.51 crore. Its term expired in 2025. The forum has urged the government to hand over RTI operations to the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Srinivas also pointed to frequent technical glitches, including OTP delivery failures that prevented registrations. He demanded a people‑friendly redesign of the portal, scrutiny of payments, and a probe into the firm’s performance.
