Tirupati: Endowments minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy on Friday inaugurated free mobile eye surgery bus units at Somasila to provide accessible eye care to people in remote villages of Nellore district.The initiative, taken up under the guidance of government adviser Gundra Satish Reddy with support from Helping Hearts, aims to deliver specialised eye care to economically weaker sections. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said free eye surgeries would be conducted for three days under the supervision of Sankara Nethralaya. Patients would be screened and treated at no cost as part of efforts to prevent avoidable blindness, he said, adding that the government accorded priority to healthcare for the poor. Referring to other welfare initiatives, Anam said a recent mega job mela at Atmakur had enabled around 600 youth to secure employment in private companies. He also said 22 village health clinic buildings were being completed in the Atmakur Assembly constituency at a cost of Rs 5.32 crore. The minister said Somasila would be developed as a tourism and spiritual destination, with plans to complete the Someswara temple and link it with Penchalakona to promote temple tourism. He assured government support to entrepreneurs willing to establish industries in Ananthasagaram mandal.
