Kanpur Court Hands Down Double Life Sentence to Three Convicts in 16-Year-Old Murder Case
In a landmark ruling, a Kanpur court has sentenced three individuals to double life imprisonment for the abduction and murder of 16-year-old Kushagra Kanodia, a Class 10 student. The victim was taken away while heading to his coaching classes, with the prosecution arguing that the motive behind the crime was to extort ransom from his family.
The court’s decision followed a thorough examination of key evidence and witness testimony presented during the trial. A total of 14 prosecution witnesses were called to testify, along with CCTV footage, ransom notes, and communication records that linked the accused to the crime.
Kushagra’s family welcomed the strict sentence but reiterated their demand for the death penalty, labeling the crime as particularly heinous. Despite this, they expressed relief at the outcome, acknowledging that justice had been served.
In response to the verdict, police praised the ruling, stating that it sends a strong message that crimes against children will be met with the harshest possible punishment under the law. The conviction and sentencing are seen as a significant step towards closure for Kushagra’s family and the community at large.
