Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), is conducting a coordinated, citywide approach to improve air quality in Hyderabad through planned action, continuous monitoring, and convergence of all concerned departments. “Improving air quality is a shared responsibility. Under NCAP, all line departments and agencies are working together with clearly defined roles to address air pollution sources in a systematic and sustained manner,” according to GHMC. The key areas of coordinated action include a hotspot-based assessment of air quality and targeted interventions, road dust control and stricter oversight of construction activities, reduction of vehicular emissions through enforcement and traffic management measures and monitoring of industrial emissions and compliance with environmental norms apart from regulation and scientific management of C and D waste activities. The GHMC, along with all line departments, is strengthening inter-departmental coordination, reviewing implementation progress, and adopting data-driven strategies to reduce pollution at source. The focus is on sustained, long-term improvement in air quality rather than one-time measures. Clean air is essential for public health, urban resilience, and Hyderabad’s sustainable future, the GHMC added.
