Hyderabad: Special teams of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two offenders involved in zip-operating thefts and recovered 210 grams of gold worth Rs 25 lakh that was stolen from railway passengers. According to Chandana Deepti, SP-GRP, the duo had stolen valuables from passengers in moving trains under Secunderabad division. The accused Kokila Maniraju, 39, a native of Bangalore and S. Dina, 27 belonging to Tamil Nadu, both habitual offenders, booked train tickets to travel in an AC coach of Nanded Express on December 2. Pretending as passengers the duo boarded the train at Visakhapatnam. During their journey to Charlapally, they observed bags of two female passengers and tactically opened the zips of the bags and stole purses containing gold ornaments, Chandana said. After committing the offence, they moved to another coach and got down at Charlapally. However, the police teams tracked their whereabouts and arreted them near Gate-2 of Secunderabad railway station at 8 am on Thursday, while they were planning another offence, S N Jawed, DSP-GRP said. The accused have been produced before the court.
