Superstar Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Varanasi is gearing up for a grand release in 2027. While the team is yet to complete the shoot, director S S Rajamouli recently revealed that a major portion of filming is still pending and will take nearly six months to wrap up next year.Interestingly, strong buzz suggests that Varanasi could have a theatrical release in Japan as well. The official X handle of IMAX Japan shared the film’s glimpse along with its release year, sparking speculation about a Japanese release. Earlier, Rajamouli’s RRR created history at the Japanese box office, despite releasing there much later than its Indian debut. Now, the makers are reportedly considering a simultaneous release in Japan along with the film’s global launch, which could significantly expand its reach. Rajamouli has already emerged as a powerful brand in Japan and is known to draw massive audiences to theatres.“Japan is a new destination for Telugu stars, as the fan base there is rapidly expanding,” admits producer T G Vishwa Prasad, who is also releasing his much-hyped film The Raja Saab in the Japanese language. He adds, “Prabhas even visited Japan a few weeks ago to meet fans during the release of Baahubali: The Epic and became emotional during his interaction with them. He has gained a huge fan base in Japan, along with the US and other countries worldwide.”Earlier, Jr NTR and Ram Charan tasted major success in Japan with RRR. Jr NTR also visited Japan to promote his recent release Devara and connect with fans. “Fans from Japan even arrived in Hyderabad to meet Ram Charan and spent quality time with him,” says director Hemanth Madhukar. He notes that Telugu stars have crossed regional and international boundaries, expanding the footprint of Telugu cinema globally. “These are good times for Telugu cinema and its top stars, who are gaining new fans across the world along with their loyal fan base,” he concludes.
