VIJAYAWADA: Making a plea for honouring national icons beyond caste boundaries, Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan has proposed naming the Polavaram Project after Potti Sriramulu. “Great leaders belong to everyone,” he stressed while addressing his Jana Sena party’s nominees at the ‘Padavi–Badhayata’ (Position–Responsibility) meeting, held at CK Convention Hall here on Monday. “Potti Sriramulu had sacrificed his life for the formation of linguistic states. I do not know if this call would materialise, but I will place it before the cabinet,” he said. Kalyan said posts were not ornaments but solemn responsibilities. “As long as there is life in my voice, I will work for national integrity and the state’s development,” he said, urging representatives to work with dignity and accountability. He said the Jana Sena had prioritised grassroots workers who stood by the party during difficult times. As part of the alliance, Jana Sena has so far received 3,459 nominated posts across the state, with more to be filled soon, he said. The party chief stressed that the selections were made without recommendations or pressure. Explaining the party’s ideology, Pawan Kalyan said Jana Sena was conceived as a regional party with a national outlook and one that rejected caste-based politics. “I never founded the party for any caste. Society progresses only when all communities come together,” he said. Warning against systemic failure, Kalyan said no post was small or big and that governance must function effectively at the grassroots. He cautioned that youth anger born of injustice could take dangerous forms if institutions weakened, and called for reviving systems to restore trust and hope. Launching a sharp attack on the YSRC, the Deputy CM said threats of arrests and violence reduced politics to rowdyism. He urged police and civil servants to act without fear, stand by justice and avoid private settlements. Expressing concern over caste divisions in schools, particularly in Pithapuram, Pawan Kalyan called for common schools and hostels and said the issue would be taken up in the cabinet. As chairman of a Cabinet committee on tourism, Kalyan stressed safety tourism and strong law and order as prerequisites for growth. Highlighting the “Pithapuram model” of democratic party-building, he said transparent booth and village committees would be replicated statewide, along with a membership drive to be completed by March. He also announced that the party’s next formation day would be celebrated with a ‘Gen Z’ theme.
