US Consul General Offers to Collaborate with AU, Visits Vizag Port

Visakhapatnam: American consul general Laura Williams visited Andhra University and Visakhapatnam Port on Thursday and interacted with their respective authorities.At Andhra University, she affirmed her commitment to strengthening the partnership between the U.S. Consulate and the century-old educational institution. During her meeting with AU vice chancellor Professor G.P. Rajasekhar, Laura Williams appreciated the programmes conducted at the American Corner established in the AU campus. “Such association between the US Consulate and Andhra University must be further strengthened,” she underlined, expressing her “high satisfaction” with the initiatives taken up at the American Corner in AU. The consul general inquired about student programmes, curriculum development, and research endeavours. Acknowledging the state government’s vision of fostering entrepreneurship in every household, she recommended that entrepreneurial education be integrated into the university’s academic agenda. She said the consulate will collaborate with AU in exploring new areas of partnership. VC Rajasekhar sought the US’s cooperation in inviting Nobel laureates to the university. He proposed to host Fulbright Scholars for extended periods at AU. He highlighted the institution’s global footprint, noting that over 1,300 international students from 58 countries pursue higher education at the Andhra University. Laura Williams later visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. She received a detailed briefing on the port’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, its strategic role in maritime trade, cargo handling capabilities, ongoing modernisation and mechanisation initiatives, and development of covered storage facilities aimed at improving operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
