
Nellore: Prakasam district police have cracked two major theft cases and recovered stolen gold ornaments and cash worth about ₹30.2 lakh within a short span. Superintendent of police V. Harshavardhan Raju on Wednesday commended the investigation teams and announced rewards for their efforts.In the first case, registered at Ongole Taluk police station, a theft occurred during a wedding at Brundavanam Kalyana Mandapam in Ongole on November 27. The complainant, Gundavarapu Kishore Kumar, reported the loss of a bag containing about 158 gm of gold ornaments and ₹1.35 lakh in cash. Police traced the accused to Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh and arrested two persons along with two juveniles and recovered gold weighing 158 gm and ₹1.25 lakh in cash, valued at around ₹20.2 lakh. In the second case, registered at Maddipadu police station, police arrested a woman who targeted elderly passengers travelling in autorickshaws. She had allegedly stolen gold ornaments worth about ₹10 lakh from a 63-year-old woman while travelling from Maddipadu to Tellapadu on December 1. The accused, identified as Tonda Shanti alias Kashamma of East Godavari district, is a habitual offender involved in multiple theft cases. All the stolen ornaments were recovered from her.
