Politicians Unite in Opposition to GHMC Ward Boundaries

Hyderabad:Leaders cutting across political affiliation have objected to the preliminary ward delimitation notification issued by the GHMC and sought rectification. The demands come a day ahead of the special meeting scheduled on Tuesday to finalise the ward delimitation in the enlarged GHMC.Key concerns include uneven boundaries of wards, votes of one constituency being transferred to another, uneven distribution of electors, and failure to consider the ability of required infrastructure in each ward.Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender found fault with Mayor G. Vijayalakshmi for not communicating the details with corporators.“The Mayor is the custodian of the GHMC Council and she is responsible for communicating important issues to corporators. But she has not done it. Corporators are in a state of anguish and have met the Mayor and submitted their objections and suggestions to her,” Nagender explained.Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi and Rajendranagar MLA Tolkanti Prakash Goud also called the ward delimitation exercise shoddy.Congress MLC Dr Balmoor Venkat said that the opinion of leaders should be given priority.“The delimitation should be done based on population and topography for better administration. It should be done by taking into account the opinions of public representatives,” said Dr Venkat.The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also has submitted its objections to the ward delimitation. The AIMIM sought correction in ward boundaries.Similarly, BJP members met GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan seeking transparency in the delimitation exercise. The BJP delegation led by senior party leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy alleged manipulation in the delimitation by the Congress to favour the MIM.A delegation of BRS leaders led by former minister and Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav met the GHMC Commissioner on Monday and submitted their party’s objections.While Srinivas Yadav called the delimitation exercise unscientific, BRS Medchal MLA Chamakura Malla Reddy said that Medchal constituency, which was represented by 220 corporators or counsellors, will be represented by just 16 members.The other BRS MLAs, who met the GHMC commissioner include Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, Musheerabad MLA Muta Gopal, and Amberpet MLA Kaleru Venkatesh. BRS MLCs D Sravan Dasoju and Surabhi Vani Devi were also present on the occasion.
